COURSE DESCRIPTION: The Patient Safety Authority created this course to educate healthcare workers in the state of Pennsylvania about reporting patient safety events.

Pennsylvania legislation mandates healthcare workers report patient safety events that did or did not cause patient harm, regardless of preventability. A survey of frontline workers identified opportunities for increased awareness and knowledge about reporting requirements. This educational course provides basic knowledge about patient safety reporting for frontline workers. Through robust reporting, we can work together to save lives.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  1. Describe the healthcare worker responsibilities per the Medical Care Availability and Reduction of Error (MCARE) Act
  2. Identify events/scenarios that require reporting per MCARE
  3. Identify resources to clarify reporting questions
