Target audience: New and experienced patient safety professionals
Course description: This course is targeted toward Pennsylvania patient safety professionals and individuals with a passion for patient safety. This course will review legislative requirements related to patient safety and reporting in the state of Pennsylvania.
Objectives
Module 1
- Identify key moments in patient safety history
- Describe the role of the Patient Safety Authority
- Identify key components of a facility patient safety plan (consider comparison to own facility plan)
- Recognize the importance of the patient safety officer
- Define the responsibilities of the patient safety committee
- Recognize the components of the confidentiality provisions in state legislation (MCARE)
- Demonstrate where to find the Anonymous Report form
- List surveillance measures that would be included in an infection prevention plan
Module 2
- Define events that need to be reported through the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Reporting System (PA-PSRS)
- Determine event classification for reporting using the Final Guidance
- Describe legislation requirements for written notification
Module 3
- Execute use of the reporting decision tree to determine event report classification to PA-PASRS
Module 4
- List tools that may be utilized in event investigations
- Describe techniques which may be used in event investigations
- Categorize risk reduction strategies by their strength of impact
- Articulate the importance of system design related to event reviews
- Identify strategies that are stronger action
- List benefits of providing disclosure
- Facilitate an event investigation through a simulation scenario in LMS
Each module will be immediately followed by a quiz which must be passed with an 80% or greater for inclusion toward your Pennsylvania continuing education certificate. An evaluation will be required prior to receiving your certificate. THANK YOU!
