Course description: This course is ideal for novice infection preventionists (IPs) as well as a review for seasoned IPs practicing in a long-term care facility within Pennsylvania. The education program consists of 10 modules that will focus on legislative requirements and regulatory requirements, and basic concepts of disease processes, infection prevention, and process improvement.

Course objectives

  • Identify long-term care (LTC) Act 52 mandatory requirements for improving the health and safety of residents and healthcare workers.
  • Identify the strategies set forth by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to ensure high-quality care and resident safety within an LTC setting.
  • Describe how the chain of transmission guides strategies to prevent organism transmission, colonization, and infection, and strategies to manage organism outbreak.
